Nature photography from a woman in the woods

The First Yellows of Spring . . .

The Marsh Marigolds popped up along the sides of the country roads this week after some much-needed rain filled in those normally wet areas. The common name for them is cowslips … not very glamorous. I prefer the Marsh Marigold name because in our early very brown Spring, they bring a cheery bright yellow to the woods.

    • Except for the real small flowers that can only be seen upclose (that I posted last week) … it is just these “flashy” guys so far, but it is a start. After the rain this weekend, I think our grass will green things up and I saw some of the brush (wild plum, juneberry, etc…) starting to flower.

    • After the long winter, that is what they looked like to me, too.
