Slow-motion Bees . . .
We have been experiencing early Fall weather … way too early. It is the beginning of August, right? It should be in the 80’s or 90’s. Instead, our daytime temps might hit 65º and night-time temps hover around 40. After the hot humid weather, it feels great (I am not complaining) .. I love the Fall. However, it is too early and I have been seeing the strange effects of the cool weather.
For the past two days … no chipmunks or squirrels in the yard fighting with the birds for seeds (there are usually armies of them). Hummingbird feeder does not need refilling. Only two goldfinches lazily sitting in the feeder and no loons singing. It is rather eerie in August for it to be so quiet. Are they curled up sleeping somewhere? Maybe they found a better food source? Are they going south early?
The bees are still around .. but, are moving at a snail’s pace. When they sit on the same flower for 5-10 minutes, it makes taking pictures of them easy. 😉 (click a picture for larger version in a slide show)
How doth the little busy bee
Improve each shining hour,
And gather honey all the day
From every opening flower.
